Welcome to the 2018-19 school year!
I have some exciting things planned
for the library and I am excited to
share them with you!

NEW THIS YEAR!

I am HAPPY to announce that the library will be open during morning recess starting in September.

Morning recess in the library is a place to relax and hang out and have fun. Whether you decide to play games, work on a puzzle, draw or color, create with origami, build with Lego's and other blocks or read...the library will be a quiet, comfortable, safe place for those that might not always want to be out on the playground. Come join us and make new friends!

Lunch recess in the library will host the Bobcat Book Club. Do you LOVE to read? Do you want to read with and talk with others about what you've read? Then this is the club for you! The book club meets once a week. We will read several books throughout the year. You can join us for one book or all of them, depending on how many students want to come. We will try to read a book from several different genres this year. Stay tuned for information about our first book and how to sign up.

Thanks to wonderful donations and to so many of you who supported last year's Scholastic Book Fair, we have LOTS of NEW BOOKS! I can't wait to share them all with you. Here are just a few to get you excited...

GENRE SHELVED FICTION SECTION!
Last year I organized and arranged our fiction section into genres...sports fiction, historical fiction, mystery, horror, science fiction, fantasy, adventure, animal stories, realistic fiction, humor and graphic novels. A few years ago, not a day went by when I didn't have a student come to me and ask where to find a scary book or a mystery. Our fiction section had been arranged by the authors last name for years and that's great, if you know the author of the book that you want to read but fourth and fifth graders usually do not. After arranging the fiction into genres, students have been able to find exactly what they're looking for and have been exposed to other books in that genre that they might not have noticed on the shelves before. They've even decided to try new books in genres that they've never read before. Many teachers at Brooks do genre book reports. Shelving the fiction books by genre has proven to better support our teachers, students and curriculum. I hope to see YOU enjoying a "new to you" genre.
